Liezl Smith is a professionally registered Industrial Engineer with a passion for Supply Chain Management, both from a process and optimisation point of view. She completed her undergraduate course at the University of Stellenbosch and her Master’s degree (Cum Laude) in Engineering Management at the University of Pretoria.

She has worked as consultant in many different industries where she has seen many different scenarios and gained experience finding optimal supply chain solutions. She started her career as a Management Trainee with British American Tobacco, and then moved into a consulting role, first as a management consultant, then a supply chain consultant. She has implemented and supported APS software systems, including Manugistics Demand and Supply, Demantra Demand and Numetrics Supply and Scheduling packages.

For the last 18 years, she has been running her own consulting and training business, specialising in the field of business planning and optimisation, including demand management, S&OP, logistics and warehouse management. She has a number of large corporate clients and delivers standard as well as customised solutions and training both locally and internationally.

She has been furthering her education, having already completed the
CPIM (Certified in Production and Inventory Management),
CIRM (Certified in Integrated Resource Management),
CLTD (Certified in Logistics, Transport and Distribution),
CSCP (Certified Supply Chain Professional) and
SCOR-P (Supply Chain Operations Reference Model Practitioner) certifications successfully through APICS,

CPF (Certified Professional Forecaster) and
ACPF (Advanced Certified Professional Forecaster) certifications through the IBF (Institute for Business Forecasting),

EMLog (European Master in Logistics) certification through the European Logistics Association as well as the

DDPP (Certified Demand Driven Planner) and
DDLP (Certified Demand Driven Leader) through DDI (Demand Driven Institute)

She is a lecturer for operations management material and regularly presents courses at the University of Pretoria and University of the North West

She served for 9 years on the Board of Directors of SAPICS, the Association for Operations Management in South Africa, of which two terms were as president of the organisation. She also served as a judge on the panel of the Logistics Achiever Awards for four years. LAA has been running for the last 29 years and recognises excellence in logistics and supply chain.

Currently she is serving on the Council of ECSA.
